Our Story & Philosophy
Haliʻā was born out of a simple, uncompromising frustration: the state of rare craft beer on Oʻahu. The legendary, small-batch expressions that collectors queue for on the West Coast—such as Monkish Brewing and Russian River—are biologically delicate, living products.
Unlike mass-produced, chemically-stabilized commercial lagers, independent craft beer is unpasteurized. If it undergoes temperature spikes above 38°F, volatile hop aromatics oxidize, and complex ester chains degrade. By the time a traditional distributor ships them in warm ambient containers, the liquid is a shadow of the brewer's intent.
We built an alternative: an unbroken trans-pacific cold corridor. We transport small-batch kegs and cans in intermodal reefers locked at a continuous 38°F from the brewery loading docks straight to our deep-water cold storage vaults in Honolulu.
About the Founder:
Haliʻā is founded and personally curated in Honolulu by Curtis Vaughan. Every brewery relationship, every allocation, and every cold-chain handoff runs through one curator — not a distribution committee. If a beer would not survive the crossing at its peak, it does not get a seat on the reefer.
