Inu Double Hazy — Inu Island Ales

Evaluating unpasteurized expressions after ocean transport requires strict thermal controls. When buying Monkish beer in Hawaii or sourcing other mainland craft allocations, local collectors frequently encounter oxidized characteristics. Heat spikes on tarmacs and cargo container baking typically compromise the yeast and hop profile before the cans reach Honolulu shelves.
This batch of Inu Double Hazy was shipped under our strict 38°F trans-pacific cold corridor, resulting in a pristine presentation. The mouthfeel is exceptionally clean, with the hop aromatics completely intact.
Inu Double Hazy is Inu Island Ales' flagship double IPA, built in the hazy tradition but scaled up to 8.2% ABV — enough alcohol to give the beer real weight and warmth without losing the soft, juicy character that defines the style. Expect a fully opaque, orange-juice pour, an aroma stacked with tropical fruit and citrus, and a full, almost chewy mouthfeel that carries more hop flavor than bitterness. The finish should stay smooth and lingering, with the alcohol showing up as gentle warmth rather than harshness. At 8.5 out of 10, Inu Double Hazy is one of the highest-rated beers on the entire Haliʻā ledger, a score that puts this Kailua brewery in serious company alongside some of the most sought-after hazy IPA producers anywhere. It earned that spot by doing the hardest version of the style — the bigger, boozier double — without losing the drinkability that makes hazies popular in the first place. Inu Island Ales, based in Kailua, has quickly built a reputation as one of Oʻahu's most technically ambitious young breweries, and Inu Double Hazy is the clearest evidence yet that Hawaiʻi's hazy IPA scene can compete at the highest level, island-brewed and island-proud.
